The Life Issues Committee promotes respect for human life from conception until natural death, the consistent “womb to tomb” ethic of the Catholic Church. We focus especially on protecting the lives of those who are most vulnerable: babies in the womb, the elderly and infirm, and convicts facing execution. To help Lourdes members reflect on current life-issues, we support national Respect Life Month activities in October and provide monthly “Life Notes” through the parish bulletin.  For further information about life issues, we recommend that you visit the below Web sites:

THIS FAR BY FAITH: BEING PRO-LIFE TODAY

Every October, Catholics observe Respect Life Month. But what does it really mean for us to be pro-life? Is it about our views on a handful of hot-button issues, or is it much bigger than that? Memphis Bishop Terry Steib takes on these questions in a provocative article from In a Word, a publication of the southern province of the Society of the Divine Word.
