Whether you’re a Catholic visiting our parish for the first time, a Christian from another denomination or non-Christian, we welcome you. What you’ll find at every Mass is a lively worship service infused with our African American heritage and embracing of diverse cultures.
Here are 10 things we’d like you to know about our church:
.) We were founded in 1912 through the generosity of St. Katharine Drexel. (Learn more about our history).
.) Yes, we’re over 100 years old!
.) We’re part of the Roman Catholic Church under the Archdiocese of Atlanta and Archbishop Wilton Gregory.
.) Our pastor Fr. Jeffery Ott and Associate Pastor Thomas Jackson are Dominicans, also known as the Order of Preachers.
.) We’re Christians, one of the oldest Christian religions in fact! We read and teach the Bible and our beliefs can be summed up in the Nicene or Apostle’s Creed.
.) We celebrate communion, what we call the Holy Eucharist, every Sunday. (If you are not Catholic, you are welcome to receive a blessing during communion by crossing your arms across your chest.)
.) Near the end of our service, we give out bread to newcomers which is an old Christian sign of welcome.
.) We celebrate seven Sacraments, that is, visible signs instituted by Jesus to confer grace: Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion, Confirmation, Matrimony, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick.
.) Our patron saint is Our Lady of Lourdes.
.) We’re committed to social justice causes, multiple denomination cooperation and peace.
