Simon’s Call is the AIDS Ministry at Our Lady of Lourdes. Our mission is to educate the parish and the community on HIV/AIDS and its prevention. We commit ourselves to eliminating the spread of HIV/AIDS through education, prayer and service.
Why “Simon’s Call” ?
Our name comes from our desire to emulate Simon the Cyrenean who was called to help Jesus carry His cross to Calvary. We believe that we must not only provide information to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, but must also assist those who are already infected and/or affected by this disease.
What do we do?
The members of Simon’s Call participate in both local parish and larger community activities designed to educate and help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Our regular activities include:
- Serving monthly brunch at The Edgewood (housing facility for persons with HIV/AIDS)<
- Annual parish observation of World AIDS Day
- Lenten Stations of the Cross
- Participation in the annual AIDS Walk to raise funds for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment
- Annual Parish Workshop in conjunction with the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS
- Ongoing quilt project to remember parishioners and their loved ones
- Weekly remembrance during prayers of the faithful at all liturgies
Meetings:
Quarterly after the 10 a.m. mass, will call meetings as needed
Members, family and friends of Simon’s Call, the AIDS Ministry at Lourdes, participated in the 19th Annual Atlanta AIDS Walk and 5K run on October 18, 2009. Funds raised by participants are used to fight HIV and AIDS in the Atlanta Region.
